Wichita Striker Killed in Auto Accident

Public services and private remembrances are taking place in Wichita this week for Jeff Hart, a 45-year old father of two who died shortly after being struck by a vehicle early on Monday morning. A member of Local 733, Hart was on his way to join fellow Hawker Beechcraft workers for a rally in support of IAM-represented workers at Boeing, who are engaged in negotiations for a new contract.

Machinists Win Alaska Outsourcing Decision

Air Transport District 143 won a major victory by securing an arbitrator’s decision stating that Alaska Airlines violated the IAM collective bargaining agreement when it improperly furloughed 500 Seattle ramp workers in May 2005.

In a potentially precedent-setting decision that could be worth as much as $12 million for Local 933 retirees, a U.S. District Court Judge in Arizona ordered Raytheon Missile Systems to restore health care benefits for retirees and dependants whose benefits were unilaterally terminated by the company.

Machinists Union Wary on Tanker Rebid Rules

Washington, D.C., July 10, 2008 - The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) is calling on Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates to ensure the new round of bidding for the Air Force refueling tanker contract does not include any residual bias from the initial competition, which contained significant errors and was heavily skewed toward the Airbus tanker.
